The first of the year is always a good time to set your goals for the coming year. Since we are at the first of the year it is time to get them on paper. Here are some suggestions from “MIndtools” to help you set goals which will help you succeed.
- Set goals that motivate YOU
- Set SMART goals
- Set goals in writing
- Make and action plan
- Stick to it!
For goals to be “SMART”, they need to be:
- S-Specific – don’t just say, “I want to eat healthy” instead say, “I will eat more fruits and vegetables every day”
- M-Measurable – don’t say “I will run a faster 5k” instead say “I will run a 5k in 30 minutes”
- A-Attainable – make sure that it is possible to reach your goal, if not, you are setting yourself up for failure
- R-Relevant – keep them heading in the direction that you want YOUR life to head, these are your goals for you
- T-Time Bound – set up a time limit to achieve the goals, a week, month, year, at the end of the time period review and regroup.
